Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions – Wedding Photography

No question too big or small

Your wedding day is one of the most important days of your life, and planning everything to the last detail can be critical. I’ve created this FAQ list with some of the questions I’m often asked about my wedding photography to hopefully put you at some ease and help aid your decision-making process. It may also give you a few wedding photography ideas!

How much do you charge for your wedding photography?

I have a full price list available here, this list also includes what you get in each of the packages, and also any formalities. I like to be super open and honest about my pricing, all prices are final and there are no hidden fees!

Do you shoot outside of Cornwall?

Absolutely! I love weddings and will shoot them anywhere. I shoot a lot as a Devon wedding photographer and often Somerset as well, but if you are further afield, get in touch! I love to travel, it’s one of my favourite hobbies. Will happily travel anywhere, so feel free to contact me and lets get planning.

Are there any hidden costs to your pricing?

No, none at all. I don’t charge extra for the wedding books, everything included is all in the price.

What do you wear to weddings?

I’m always dressed smart to every wedding. I don’t want to be the centre of attention, I want to blend in. Generally I have smart trousers, shirt and shoes. I tend to avoid a jacket or tie as having two cameras around your neck and I’m always on the move! I tend to get very hot throughout the day! Regardless, I always make sure that I am looking as smart as possible.

How many photos do you take? And how many are in the wedding album?

I don’t limit the amount of photos I take in a day. It really varies as to what is going on in the day and how many guests there are etc. there is no upper limit, I don’t take a thousand photographs and then consider myself done for the day.

I shoot in a manner that allows me to carefully pick between a few different shots to make it into the final album, so I can choose between facial expressions, whilst it’ll seem like I’m taking millions, in the final album I will aim to include around 450-500 fully professionally edited and finished images.

What happens on my wedding day if its raining?

I get asked this question a lot (it is England after all!) and in sunny Cornwall this is also a concern, but it doesn’t have to be. It’s always a case of playing it by ear on the day, and trying to get outside as much as possible.

But if it’s raining on your special day, it isn’t the end of the world at all! Let’s get some epic stormy photos that are super atmospheric, or we can find a cute corner of your venue to grab a few shots. It doesn’t matter that it’s raining, you guys will still love each other and still have an awesome day!!

I really do not like my photo being taken!
This is one of the most common things I get told! Rest assured, I have never yet failed to get photos of couples enjoying there day regardless of how worried you are that there is a camera present!

My approach is very ‘out of your face’, I really don’t stick the camera under your nose, I hang back and for the most part you really will not notice I am even there!

When will my wedding photographs be ready?

As I take a lot of photographs on every wedding, and I always go through every photograph to ensure I am choosing the best ones for the final album editing can take upto 4-6 weeks. This is generally the longest I’d ever take to get your photographs to you, and most of the time it will be much quicker than this.

It also depends on the amount of other weddings I have round the time and my workload in general. But rest assured, I try and get everything to you as soon as possible! 🙂

How long do you stay on the actual day?

It really does depends on which package you are going for. If you choose a full day package then I am with you for 10 hours ish. I say ish because I love weddings, I really enjoy myself throughout the day, so If the day overruns or the part is still going, then I just stay longer! I can easily bend my working time to suit the events of the day.

Do you need feeding on the day itself?

Generally, I do ask for food to be supplied on the day if possible, and most of the time I eat whilst you are eating and I can’t get any shots anyway (people never seem pleased to have a camera pointed at them with food in their mouths!). However, It’s really not a problem if it’s not possible.

Have you ever worked at my wedding venue before? If not, does it matter that much? Do you plan to check it out beforehand?

There are absolutely tons of wedding venues in the UK and I normally visit at least 1 new venue every week. So every now and then I do photograph at a venue I haven’t been to before. It’s not an issue, where possible I check out every venue before the day. If that’s not possible (wedding season can get super busy!) I ALWAYS turn up super early just to check everything out before the action starts.I also find I work best in new environments, I normally react to what’s happening rather than over-thinking the venue. 😉

I find I work best under pressure and in new environments, my wedding photography is very documentary, so it’s all reactive to you and what’s happening on the day. Sometimes I find the best photos come from shooting at new venues and not having previous ideas to fall back on!

Can my friends and family purchase wedding prints?

Of course – for every wedding package I provide an online password protected gallery filled with all of your wedding pictures. This is perfect as you can give the link and password to only the people that you want to see your photos. They also have the option on this wedding gallery to buy any if the photos as prints really easily with just a few clicks!

Do you carry insurance?

Yes I do, I have full public liability insurance.

When do we pay you?

I generally ask for a £500 deposit that will secure the booking and the date in my diary from anyone else booking it. Then the remaining payment is due 1 week before the wedding, or before if most convenient for you. I have no strict method  I need to receive the money by. However as a rule I cannot release the wedding photographs until full payment has been made.

Do you only photograph weddings based in Cornwall?

No not at all, but as this is where I live, this is where I generally tend to work. I am open to weddings anywhere in the country, and even destination weddings if that is your wish. Best way to get all details is to contact me and let me know what you have planned and I can let you know if I am free.

What style of photography do you shoot?

I would say that my style is both natural and elegant. I aim to tell the story of your wedding with minimal intrusion, almost in the background so that I can capture the natural and genuine emotion. There are some parts of your day where I need to direct a little (such as the big groups) but rest assured I am a friendly chap who will not be shouting at anybody! I often take the Bride and Groom away for a few shots at a part of the day chosen by them but again – there are no fixed grins into the lens – I let you guys be yourself and this is how I get the natural expressions seen throughout my imagery.

Do you do pre-wedding consultations?

Of course, I leave these completely up to the couple as to if they have one or not however. Some couples like to discuss the day in person and to meet me beforehand to put themselves at ease, so that they know what to expect on the wedding day, however some people feel comfortable enough to leave it to the day. I often have couples which I meet on the day itself.

The pre-wedding consultations are of course no-obligation and are completely free. I can show you some examples of my work, discuss my style, how I work and what to expect. There is no pressure to book following a consultation – I am in no way a cold salesman! Please note however – your wedding photographs will equally come out okay without a consultation.

I generally suggest meeting for a coffee locally (any excuse for some cake!).
